Trip Duration : 15-16 Days Next Trip Leaving 18th February 2019
This trip will trace many sites of the historical importance to the development of New South Wales, from early occupation to the european era.
Along the route at varying points we will trace the ancient river systems which no longer exist to the more recent flows of the Murray Darling River System, which have been the lifeblood of these lands for millennia. In other places we will trace the footsteps of the ill fated Burke & Wills Expedition, as well as sections of the old Cobb & Co routes.
The trip commences with a visit to the recent pastoral property at Yanga NP, then moving to the World Heritage Area of Mungo NP and experience treading the footsteps of the oldest continuous civilisation with a guided tour of the Walls of China. Moving west we travel along the Darling through the Menindee Lakes region to Wilcannia and the ancient landscape of Mutawintji NP, grabbing the opportunity to take a walk through the Homestead Gorge and also a tour to the petroglyphic carvings with interpretation by an Indigenous Ranger. A short trip to White Cliffs will bring us to a more recent history with a prospect to visit an opal mine, then via Wilcannia, to Trilby Station enjoying time to rest and explore the history of a family run station.
Spending time in Bourke will allow us to visit the local attractions before the final leg through Brewarrina, visiting the ancient fish traps enroute to the thriving town of Lightning Ridge where we finish the tour, but with the opportunity to tour the vast opal fields, and discover the Glengarry Hilton & the Club in the Scrub, and other local attractions.
